Today I would like to share with you some tips and color charts that can be used to decorate your knitted toy garments.
Swiss darning is done by sewing yarn over your existing knit stitches.

I use this technique to decorate my basic toy overalls instead of using more complex techniques such as intarsia knitting, I just use Swiss darning in place of colorwork. Kids love to find some lovely and funny prints on their toy clothes.
Good to remember before you start:
  1. It is important to take care as to not place the needle through the individual strand of yarn – always put the needle in between stitches or in the center “V” of the knit stitch
  2. Use the yarn that is the same gauge as your knitted fabric
  3. Finish the ends either by tying knots or weaving them in as you would your knitting
  4. Do not use a sharp needle
  5. Check if a chart size fits your fabric size: count how many stitches ‘up-down’ and ‘side to side’ your chosen chart has. Find the place on your fabric and check if it works well on it.
  6. If you are going to decorate the basic toy overalls by Polushkabunny choose chart which size is a maximum of 20 stitches x 20 stitches.
  7. Where to start: I like to start from the centre point of my chart. Find the centre point of your chart and mark the centre point of your knitting - it's easier to track out stitches.
  8.  It's important to pull each stitch with the same amount of tension.
  9. If it's your first time, choose some easy prints like that:
There are some nice charts that can be used for your basic overalls ♥ Enjoy!
Many crafters asked me about this design⤵

The awesome idea to add such bees:

By the way, this lovely reindeer is embroidered too:

I hope this post is helpful and you enjoy making your basic overalls and decorating them with these nice and beautiful prints 💛🌺
