One of the things I cherish most about being part of the handmade community is witnessing the incredible journeys that your creations take. It never ceases to amaze me how something made with love, yarn, and a pair of knitting needles can go on to be part of something much bigger — sometimes even history. And today, I wanted to share a little story that truly touched my heart.
Not long ago, one of wonderful makers from our knitting community knitted an adorable polar bear using one of my toy patterns. It was a sweet, charming little bear — one of those creations that instantly makes you smile. But what happened next is what makes this story truly special.

A while later, she reached out to me with the most unexpected news: her polar bear had not only won a competition, but had also been chosen as a prop for a real television series! 🎬🐻 Yes, you read that right — a handmade toy, lovingly created from a knitting pattern I designed, was headed for the screen.
The show is called “The Bombing of Pan Am 103”, a powerful drama based on true events that took place in Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988. It’s a heartbreaking story that deeply affected people around the world. The series, a joint production between the BBC and Netflix, aims to shed light on those events and the lives forever changed by them.
Knowing that one of my patterns became a small part of a story this meaningful is something I’ll treasure forever. It’s a reminder that handmade things carry a special kind of soul — and sometimes, they quietly weave themselves into history.
It’s wonderful to see big projects like this bringing crafters together and shining a light on the handmade community. Initiatives like these not only inspire creativity but also help support small makers and keep traditional crafts alive. It’s a great reminder of how powerful and valuable handmade work still is today.
What touches me most is seeing how your beautiful creations become part of stories that matter. Whether they’re gifted to loved ones, used to comfort, or even featured on screen, every handmade toy carries a piece of your heart. And as a designer, it means the world to see where your hands and my patterns can take us together.
Have you seen this series yet? And just for fun… would you love to see your handmade toy as a prop in a film or TV show one day? Who knows where our yarn and needles might lead us next✨🎥🧶
